I have been thinking a lot about original art. What is it that makes a collector of originals? I have been tripping out a bit thinking about the concept of original art vs the signed and numbered limited edition. I think peeple can grasp the limited edition concept way easier than plunking down on an original. maybe it's easier to talk an be comrads with a group of peeple that all get the same thing, even if it's just a really small group. An original work is so very personal. What do you think... about OG, and OG vs LE?

Honestly? LE becomes a product and it underminds the OG art. Together they do a little dance and birds and bees sing and out cums the Art Product. It's gnarly product/consumer relationship isn't to be missunderstood as marketing or selling out it's the peak of the mountain. This mountain has risen up from our culture. I think it looks pretty durring sunset.
Like with everything, if the OG art doesn't communicate anything (insert feeling and shit) the art product is simply decoration and more trash for the ocean after the big quakes shake and crumble the moutain.
20 years ago I thought the many copies = better, dissemination, art for the people.
Now I lean toward originals because of it's intimate, personal nature that lacks in our mediated life.
However, I still don't agree with the exclusivity that originals can breed. A series of the same piece can be a solution. It's like live versions of songs-- same structure yet different due to it's moment in time...
Overall, both approaches serve needs for the artist...
sell em all and let god sort em out!

Thanks for the comments eh.
Thinking more about it. When you get a limited edition of anything you can become part of a club, like boyscouts, only you are part of a club that likes a particular artist or designer, ect... I have an original sculpt from Le Merde, sorto f a vander looking guy, and i love him, but I can't have a hodown with my buddies about how we all love that piece. I also have a clear burgerbuns, but I can call my other pals that have burgerbuns and we can rap gayly all day about how rad BBuns is and what versions we each love bout burgerbuns. OG = Personal. LE = boyscouts. Both are love.
